Inspirations: Proxy 40k armies

The images you are about to see all come from one guy, forum name "Uber kroot", this guy seems to have a brilliant imagination when it comes to using other miniatures in proxy armies. The creativity here is hugely inspiring to me.

Tarellian Army (link: Here)
Now that's one tooled up leader

Nasty looking ain't he
A fair few scary creatures you wouldn't want to meet in a (large) dark alley
Jump pack Lizardmen...
Reminds me of the HE-MAN movie.....I guess the Avengers movie for younger generations
Necron Monoliths like you have never seen them before...
I see orc & necron  parts, plus a croxigor

Nekulli (Link: Here)
I saw this guy and thought that would look cool with the bretonnian banner top on it's neck.... (looked at the miniature lying on the desk underneath.... crap lol).
I might need to get me some 'nids....

Halloween Pumpkin Carving

So something a bit different today, basically I just wanted to show off my fiance's brilliant pumpkin carving :).

She said the pumpkin this year wasn't as good as last year (it started to fall apart in places), I still think she made a good job of it.

Anyone have any suggestions for how to get decent photos of lit pumpkins in the dark....?

As this blog is less than a year old I didn't post last year's so for your viewing pleasure here are the 2 she did last year (she didn't have time to do 2 this year).

Necromunda: Mutie Brawler (Archive conversion)

The figure is converted out of OOP Gorkamorka orc legs and a OOP Mutie raider top half, his weapon head was removed previously for another conversion and a plastic OOP skeleton weapon used instead.

Another archive conversion (I need to get somethings finished i'm running out of archive conversions!! (or at least photos of them)).
Another figure created for Fringe Wars for the mutant warband I was working on.
The model would also work in a carnival of chaos warband for necromunda... which I have only just thought of.... . I have some plague bearers kicking around too.... damn that means another warband......

Necromunda: Sci-Fi Demi-Warrior (archive conversion)

The lighting is crud at the moment so you'll have to wait if you wanted some more Kroot conversion piccies.

The parts used in the conversion are:
2x pairs of necron legs.
1x Necron warrior torso.
1x Necron spine + pelvic region.
1x Terminator helmet front.
1x Defiler wavy attacky flail thingy.
6x Dwarf helmet horns.
A weapon cut off an old Eldar titan (a titan that would now be worth a lot of money... oh well).
Some greenstuff and a 25mm base.
So this guy is another archive conversion from my abandoned "Fringe Wars" Necromunda conversion. I dubbed him a "demi-warrior".. can't really explain why.... the idea behind the conversion is that there is a snake type of creature inside the suit.

The fluff in my head is that the "Ichar" a race of highly evolved sentient lizardmen were extremely advanced before their race's demise at the hands of the imperium. The Demi-warriors are an example of the pinnacle of their technology, allowing the otherwise relatively harmless sentient race of serpents that co-inhabited their world to perform functions that they have only ever dreamed of.
Although much of the technology from their home world could not be saved the Demi-warriors were capable of evacuating themselves and thus able to escape their world's demise with their Ichar allies.

Anyway, I didn't really go far enough to distinguish this from a Necron model, though a paint job would help, it's origins are immediately obvious. Also the underslung gun looks pretty rubbish and I never finished the tail.

Sci-Fi terrortoise anyone + new fishmen miniatures on the horizon.

Well I was going to get around to doing a sci-fi terrortoise conversion and in the back of my mind I was thinking about scratch sculpting and casting them but it looks like Mantic games may have done the groundwork for me.

Assuming they make another $13,000 in the next 6 hours at the time of writing on their "dreadball" kickstarter this lovely concept will be put into play:

I have ti admit i'm slightly annoyed that the idea I had is now no longer original but this is cool enough to get over that. I have already invested in the Dreadball kickstarter and this is definitely going to be one of my BOGOF teams.

While i'm posting concepts from companies I also found out about this one the other day:

His name is Rask, and he is going to be the Blindwater caster appearing in the next Privateer press Hordes release (2013), seen here pictured with undead Bog Trogs.... These models WILL BE MINE!!! they will be added to my fishmen warband, only problem is, at PPs prices they will probably set me back about £40, I wish PP would go plastic :( (for cost and ease of conversion.

Anyway, I have actually finished a Terrortoise paint job so will have a photos up today or tomorrow.

Have a good rest of Sunday

Necromunda: Sci-Fi lizardman (archive conversion)

A few years back I was working on a sci-fi project called "Fringe Wars", the intention being to create a modified version of Necromunda where you could use other races than just humans (and the few Genestealer or Ork lists out there). The below conversion was a race I had called the "Ichar", I was going to mix lizardmen with another race, much like snakes but that were implanted into a mechanical suit (converted from Necron parts).

Much like a lot of my projects  the Fringe Wars project came to an end when the players at the club went off the idea of Necromunda. I'm appear to be driven by the desire to play games with races un-seen in the usual canons, but i'm stiffled by a lack of players with any desire to do the same :P. I wish I lived in a town, city where there were people with a passion to create random crap like me basically :( lol.

Anyway, incase you are curious the weapon was made out of sprue bits and a glass bead, the rest is just a lizardman skink and a bit of plastic shaving for his shoulder armour.

Necromunda: Female Ganger 2 (archive conversion)

Well I MIGHT have something to show after the weekend is out, but in the mean time here is another archive Necromunda conversion dug out of the archives.

Again this conversion used an OOP Eldar ranger body and woodelf head, but she was finished off with a Warzone helmet and a shotgun from the OOP necromunda weapon sprue. The knife was from the OOP plastic Orlock figure.

Ugh look at the paintwork on that shotgun... shocking... :( lol.

Necromunda: Female Ganger 1 (archive conversion)

Ugh, it's been a draining week, sorry for the lack of updates, and to top it off... I still don't have any, instead i've dug though my archive and brought you this little conversion from a few years ago.

The conversion was based on one of the OOP Eldar rangers. It also uses wood elf parts, a beastman weapon and an OOP necromunda plastic Orlock gun.

This was one of a few I did for a warband that I never finished painting (partly because I was not happy with the paint jobs). She'd probably look pretty good in a 28mm ][ Warband that I see so many of over on the Ammobunker specialist games forum.

Anyway, hopefully i'll have something new to show after this weekend, otherwise i'll have to plunge into my archives again.

Sculpting: Sci-fi Dwarves update

Been a while since I felt like sculpting (i.e. from scratch), but over this time off  I decided to have a bit of a dabble again, taking these two near future sci-fi dwarf figures a bit further on from where they were sitting before, one day I might finish the 5 guys I have on the work bench!

Sculpting: Sci-fi Dwarf Sculpt

Something I did a while ago that will one day be sold at Troll forged Miniatures. Totally sculpted out of brownstuff / greenstuff and pro-create, apart from the gun (bits of metal tubing) and head (open licence head from Hasslefree miniatures).

I believe this was my 4th full sculpt, and although I still can't manage to sculpt decent heads I was pretty happy with him :).

The cast below has bits of brownstuff in it which was washed out of the mold in case you are wondering what those spots are, also a bit of the coat is missing from the back, but I believe the mold has been tweaked to prevent this in production.

WH40K: Tau Auxiliary; Touren

Another oldie for you, and the source of my Avatar.

Around the release of the plastic stealth suits, at the time I was pretty much exclusively playing Warhammer 40k (Tau). I spotted those stealth suits and I immediately thought the legs would fit well on a beastman gor, so I set out to get me a set for that purpose (and some beastmen).

Once the sets arrived I started work.
I decided I wanted to make a noble looking beastman rather than a ferile looking one (after all the Tau already have the kroot). Because of that I didn't use the horns from the beastmen set, instead I used the helmeted Gor head (back then there was only one plastic helmeted head). I applied putty to the hole left after excluding the horns and smoothed it to become the back of the helmet.

Anyway, the important part are the photos so here you go:

The original Prototype Touren, the one that started it all
The guy above was used to create my Avatar, taking a digital photo of him and manipulating it in Photoshop. I always chose white as a predominate colour in my 40k paint schemes.... as someone who isn't very good at painting, this was not a good idea, but there you go it just appealed to me.

With the success of the first conversion I went on to produce 4 more.
I decided that I would use them as space marine scouts in games of Apocalypse (at the time I thought I might actually have more than one game of apoc), to that end I swapped out the carbine for a pulse pistol, much like the one below.
I wasn't happy with the size of the pistols in the large beastman hands, but that's something I never resolved.

The unit's heavy support, in the form of a rocket launcher.
The unit was unfortunately never finished and languishes in disuse at the bottom of one of my army cases, part painted and mostly without guns.

Originally these conversions were posted on GreyDeath's "Work In Progress" forums (http://z11.invisionfree.com/Work_In_Progress/index.php), one of my favourite forums as there was always some new fantastic conversion to stare at everyday, it's unfortunately much quieter than it used to be but it's still got a lot to give and is updated quite regularly, masses of inspiration in it's archives that's for certain.

In particular conversions by member : "Typhoid_Garry" are something to marvel at (even if he frequently didn't finish his projects, much like me lol)

WH40K: Touren Pirate

An oldie for you, one of the first conversions that I did for an old project that fell by the way side called "Fringe wars".

Fringe wars was basically Necromunda mashed into WH40k. So instead of gangs you were fighting with units from a 40k race. e.g. Necron cultists (humans worshiping Necrons), Genestealer cults, Tau pathfinders, Eldar corsairs, inquisitor units, etcs.

Much like the MODheim project I started making units for a bunch of warbands, the first of which were the Tauren.

I pictured the Tauren as a noble / Honourable  race of non-spacefairers, their planet was however assimilated into the Tau empire. Once assimilated the Touren were given the choice of joining the Tau empire or moving on (e.g. leave their planet). Most joined the Tau empire, some however chose to go it alone and after being deposited onto a commerce planet, made their way in the world as mercenaries for rogue traders or pirates. I only ever finished one non-Tau touren, but I was very happy with him.

The parts used in this conversion were:
Beastman body, beastman head
Space marine scout shotgun (hand removed and handle re-sculpted)
Space marine torso front & Pouches.
OOP space marine scout bike shotgun holster (handle removed).
Catachan jungle fighter sheathed sword & knife plus pocket shaved off of a leg.
OOP Dwarf hand (pointing)
Wire for shades.
Greensutff.

I started to paint him as well but I didn't get very far.

DeathSquads: Squat survivors

The below figures were going to be the 2nd warband converted for use in DeathSquads, there are no actual rules for Squats, I was intending to use them as Chaos renegades, however I still only have 2 of them finished lol.

Converted from Privateer Press Hammerfall High Shield figures, with GW plastic heads (Empire militia and Catachan Jungle fighter), a weapon from Heresy Miniatures and the bolter type thing from Inquisitor (54mm). Plus a fair ammount of greenstuff (and even a little greystuff (pro-create putty) on the first guys shoulders)

DeathSquads: Bloodaxe Orks

Here are the models I put together for use in Death squads:
http://www.deathsquadsgame.com/

BLOOD AXE KOMMANDOS

The models are all converted from Rackham Orc Trackers of the Behemoth, then using ork bits from 40k, warhammer and a few plastic bits from other places.

THE FAUST COLLECTIVE (15mm, GRUNTZ)

Below I have posted up images of my 15mm project for the GRUNTZ system, written by a friend of mine.

The collective is an alliance of races that have banded together to create a stable force within the universe. The alliance is a nomadic faction, travelling throughout the stars on massive vessels teaming with life and mechanical automatons.

The venerable Demiurg lead the alliance in battle, due to thier advanced technology and extreme durability they make for fearsome enemies whilst showing a vast experience in battle tactics and strategies.

Among the other races incorperated into the alliance the Nisscar stand out. As one of the founding members and most alien in form. They command powerful psykic abilities, combined with Demiurg technology the force of their minds is able to power terrifying weaponry and extremely agile fighting machines able to out manouver the best the universe has to offer.

Below are some images of the models I have painted so far.

This is my commander; a Demiurg Warden battlesuit.
The Suit was converted out of a Dust Tactics miniature, with legs from an OOP HAVOK Karn darksun PPP figure (I think that is what it was called).

Warden Battle suit

The odd looking thing below is a Nisscar Praam.
It was converted out of a part from a Warmachine Retribution Warjack, combined with some greenstuff and wire for the tentacles.

Nicassar Praam

Here we have a unit of Demiurg Drones lead by a Nicassar Attachment.

The Drones were converted from the ends of the Necron Gauss Flayers.
The Nicassar was converted from a Wood elf Dryad part combined with a necron Scarab head.

Drones & Nicassar Attachment

I don't have a name for the creatre below yet, it's an original sculpt that I did some years ago, I had a few cast up and I will be using them as scout type troopers, when the Demiurg need something with more iniative than a drone for engagements.

???? Rabbit styled Alien type thingy

There will be more to come on the 15mm front. I have some more drones ready to paint and another battlesuite under construction. I also have 2 tanks lined up for converting.
