Modheim: Deathcap (PiP) (Bloodcap Gnome Leader)

Still not decided about the hat at this point, in my head it had a skull stitching into it, but I might just leave it black (as my freehand skills are non-existent). Overall though I'm quite happy with the dour and grim look that he is bringing to the table, he certainly has the executioner look I was going for :).

I finally settled on an axe for his weapon because of the look I was going for (the axe head is from the OOP multipart chaos warriors BTW).

This guy marks the 8th gnome I have converted, I now have to get or model the mushroom men that will make up the rest of the warband (fill the position that hobgoblins would fill in a Chaos dwarf list), still looking at the Hasslefree mushroom men, but still not liking the impact that they will have on my wallet for what is the weaker part of the list :(, oh well perhaps i'll get a pay rise this year.... (lol - yeah right).

Anyway, I hope you like him, I do :).

Is it a Gnome or something else? (Undecided WIP )

After the weak update of the finished vampire yesterday, to boost the content here is an item that I can't work out how to finish.... lol.
He is based on a mantic dwarf, with a body of greenstuff. I don't like the mantic dwarves in general, too comical looking to me but the legs are ok....

I did this quite a while ago and he's been sitting waiting for a head / arms since then, I have no idea what to do with him... he's roughly gnome height but too armoured / Tidy looking for a gnome in the style of the guys i've already done and he's too short to be a dwarf compared to the dwarf warband.... any suggestions welcome.

MODheim: Bloodcap Gnome Group shot

Sorry it's mostly out of focus, my fiancee has gone up north for her uncle's retirement do and she stole my OLD camaera... and I haven't quite figured out all the buttons on the new one yet.....

I took a group shot of the Gnomes, the only thing I've done to them since the individual shots is black out their bases ready for whatever I decide to do to them.

I'm going to put the warband on hold for a while as I figured out what to do about ranged weapons... basically I am going to put mushroom men in the warband. I figure you don't expect a mushroom man to be too tough in combat so they'd make perfect troops for ranged support :).

I was going to get the Hasslefree miniatures which are great, BUT they don't fall into my budget and I really need to stick to it because my fiancee is going to be out of work again very soon.

Anyway, I also took a group shot of the terrortoise which I will put up tomorrow (as I doubt I will have anything else finished this weekend).

Thanks for reading :).

MODheim: Bloodcap Gnomes update DEATHCAP

Madness or inspired... that's what I was thinking as I cut off the top of this £8 figure.....

Truth be told this guy has been in my lead pile for a good few years now and I still hadn't done anything with him so.... what the hell!.

The deathcap, leader of my gnome warband, any min now he's going to realise some bugger has stolen the head of his weapon right out from under his nose.....
Conversion uses the Avatars of War Chaos Dwarf Hero type metal figure, and OOP GW Night goblin head / hood and some GS.

I was going for an executioner type hood look, which is kind of what I've got.... he needs a bit more putty on the left hand side where I managed to cut a little too much off when shaving a bit of excess dried putty off :(.

I wanted to do an armoured gnome for the warband's leader in MODheim, plus using them as black dwarves in border town burning means there is a chance I might get some chaos armour, in which case the model can get used there too. It means i'm down one chaos dwarf hero, but then he's really too tall vs. all of the chaos dwarves i've converted so far anyway!

MODheim: Bloodcap Gnomes update

Three painted gnomes brings the warband up to 7 models :), i'll get a full warband shot up soon.

Gnome hero

Gnome Henchmen
I've really enjoyed making these guys, so much so that I just picked up another 14 night goblin heads off eBay and another box of Avatars of War dwarf Beserkers..... lol.

MODheim: Bloodcap Gnomes update

Another hero finished for the Bloodcap gnome warband.

Conversion is made up of:
Avatars of war Legs, Torso & Beard.
GW Flagellent Whip, chains and key.
GW OOP High elf dragon knight lance hand guard (dug out of my scrap metal bag lol).
GW OOP Night goblin head
GW Chaos warrior cloak / shoulder guard trimming (left over from a previous conversion) .
GW Dryad Branch bit (base adornment - used to extend the hood).
Greenstuff & 30mm base.

As a Mordheim campaign is imminent at the Worthing club (W Sussex, UK), i'm looking to use the gnomes as "Black Dwarves" from the border town burning Mordheim supplement. Therefore looking at the weapons available to black dwarves I noted the steel whip was an option for them. I liked that idea so I used it in the last hero below.

The Black dwarves list only has 4 heroes, the sorcerer (check), 2 gaolers (hence the key (check)), and a bull centaur.... (crud). Now I have to come up with a cool idea for a Gnome equivelent of a large fast moving combat hero... any ideas?

MODheim: Bloodcap Gnomes update (PIP)

So you might remember this conversion from a while ago, it's my Bloodcap Gnome mage MR CUDDLES!!!!!

I'm still looking for a suitable wizened wooden staff to plant in the ground behind him, but he's at least part painted now.

Came out alright in the end.
He had a couple of new additions to the figure since the WIP shot of the conversion, daggers from the kroot kit, scroll and pouch from the flagellants kit and the blue bottles on the pocket on his left are actually the night goblin lower jaw I cut off the head... lol.

Auw goh on y'know ya want ta! *HUG*

MODheim: Bloodcap Gnomes update (WIP)

Below we have one Bloodcap Gnome Madcap (or mage).... or as my fiancee wants to call him, "Mr Cuddles".... *sigh*.
This guy was originally going to be the Gnome leader (Deathcap) but I really wasn't "feeling" the conversion, he'd been sitting with no head or arms on my desk for about 2 weeks before I decided to give him robes to cover up the torso I wasn't happy with.
As I wanted my Deathcap to look more warrior like that meant this guy would have to be the Madcap.

Overall i'm very happy with the conversion, though he's probably not going to shake the "Mr Cuddles" nickname...... tough i'm sure he wont look as friendly with a horde of zombie like mushroom men around him.....

I just have to find a gnarly looking staff to stick into the ground (base) behind him.

Conversion parts are:
Avatars of War bare foot legs (heavily modified) & banner top arms.
OOP chaos warrior torso.
OOP Night goblin head.
OOP Dwarf warriors beard
Greenstuff & Greystuff (Pro-create).

Madcap, Mr Cuddles

Bloodcap Gnomes: Conversion Guide

I've been asked a couple of times now how I made my gnomes, so therefore, it's time for a little guide.

Firstly 'd like to point out that the original ideas for putting Night goblin heads on Dwarf bodies, wasn't mine, here, I got the idea from CMON, when I saw this:

Obviously back then the AoW plastics did not exist, but I think Kubasa did an excellent job on those gnomes. I had that image in my mind for years and when I saw the AoW plastics I decided it was finally time to give it a shot.

I don't have any WIP shots unfortunately, but I will try and describe the process as best as I can.

PARTS LIST
Avatars of War plastic dwarf Berserker, legs, arms and torso. - here is a blog page that reviews the kit: LINK

OOP GW Dwarf warrior head (with beard of choice).

OOP GW Night goblin head (with hood).

Weapons of choice (in my case I cut the ends off of the musicians horn in the Warhammer FB Dwarf Thunderers / warriors unit (can't remember which)).

Glue
**I highly reconmend superglue rather than plastic glue as the parts can stil be separated if anything goes wrong.**

GUIDE

**NOTE- anywhere I mention GS I mean greenstuff, and you should always let the GS set before moving onto the next stage in case you put your finger in it.**

Trim off the bottom of the night goblins face, and a tiny bit of the bottom / back of the underside of his nose (a little notch for the beard to go into).

Trim the beard off the dwarf's head and shave off some of the back of the now seperate beard at the top. Dry fit to Night goblin head, shave more off if needed until it looks right / fits snugly, then glue into place and GS any gaps.

Take your chosen legs from the AoW beserker kit (I prefer the ones with trousers) and cut a small wedge of sprue at the angle you want the body at ( I did this to make the model more upright (helps with the head being so big).

Glue the sprue to the middle of the legs (I recommend dry fitting to ensure correct angle as it's a pain to trim the sprue piece after gluing).

Glue to torso in place.

Using a blob of greenstuff fill the gap in the torso and sclupt at the back to blend into the legs and torso.

Dry fit the night goblin head (with attached beard) and trim down the neck line and sides of the back of the goblins hood to fit. Then glue the head in place.

Use another blob of GS to extend the back of the Night goblin's hood over the torsos' back blending into the hood.

Create / cut / choose your weapon heads, glue them to the AoW arm weapon shafts and then glue the arms to the torso.

Tidy up with some greenstuff on the shoulders if required (I did on mine (not pictured above).

All in all fairly simple conversions, but getting hold of the OOP parts might not be so easy.

You should end up with something like this (additional cloaks were converted out of a GW Chaos warrior back half (dremelled to death) and an off cut from the OOP "Hairy head sprue" (originaly from the Mordheim boxed set).

Cheers for reading.

MODheim: Blood Gnomes

The Blood Gnomes are vicious little creatures, small and yet ferocious and deadly with it.
They have a tradition of soaking thier caps in the blood of their victims, hence their dirty red colour.

The Gnomes are another warband being converted and painted by myself for my MODheim project. The models below are Gnome Blood cap beserkers, there are pictures here showing the models before painting and their current Paint in progress status.

The gnomes in this post were all converted from Avaters of War Dwarf beserker bodies and legs, with OOP Night goblin heads. The Night goblin heads were modified with beards from the OOP Dwarf warrior boxed set (6th edition warhammer). The weapon heads were cut from the end of the current dwarf warriors (I think might be thunderers) musician horn.

Blood Gnome Beserker Prototype

Blood Gnome beserker (cloak is an off cut from my bits box) - sorry about the flash

Picture of all 3 current gomes and shows the Beserker Champion at the bottom - again sorry about the flash
This picture shows al three gnomes in thier current mostly painted state

I have purchased some bits which I hope I can use to make some less "tribal" looking gnomes for rest of the warband (they wont be all be beserker types).
