Mordheim: New warband - Emissary of Bleakwood

The Emissary (warband leader)

 Last hero on 2 feet for the warband, the Emissary herself, this conversion uses the same parts as the other two figures based on the Tree revenants, just more branches used on her head basically.
However where the other two had stock legs, this one had both legs cut off and then re-assembled onto the Blood bowl elf pelvis.

More conversions for my new warband, another based on Tree revenent &blood bowl wood elf and the other a pretty common conversion (I've seen at least 2 others) based on the Dark elf sorcerer & Sylvaneth Branchwych.

Mordheim: New warband - First member - Bayne

This is Bayne, the first of the new warband I have been working on for around a month I think.

He's made from;

Sylvaneth Tree Revenent (legs, both arms)

Blood bowl wood elf team (torso, mask)
Sisters of the thorn hair
One weapon is from the old Dwarf warriors (going to have spikes added from Flagellant kit), the other is from the old Bretonnian Men at Arms.
Then then is a some pro-create / miliput, plastic putty and Martian ironearth paint used for filling and texture.

Woodland Lord / Dryad king

Well many moons ago I said I was going to do a conversion basically copying the Oggster's brilliant Enigma miniature conversion of a tree dude. (.

Well now I have.

This plus that excellent Drycha conversion I purchased leads me to splitting the guys I had slated for the "wood elves" at least three ways lol.

The warbands will become:
Wild elves (made up of tharn miniatures and other barbarian types (e.g. I purchased some Kelt Sessair parts from Confrontation).

Not sure how the split will be but I also intend on the following
Woodland Defenders
Woodland Avengers

There will likely be dryads in both but are likely to be beastmen in the avengers and Fairies, Satyr, Faun / sprites in the defenders.

Why?, because I can / want to... possibly because i'm a little nuts, I don't know, but i'm presently figuring out how to use this... which is about 8-10" tall excluding the trees on it's head..... hehe

Wood elves; Tharn: Swordmaiden and Druid

So I thought just updating my blog today with a picture of something I bought off eBay and just change the base of was a little rubbish, so here we have a proper update, of some models I have converted :)

The Tharn miniatures from Privateer press are pretty damned cool (well the not beast form ones at least (my opinion) and I have so many ideas for forest beasts and creatures etc that I'm probably going to have to split my miniature for the wood elf faction into a number of sub-factions, e.g. I have the faun, Tharn, Dryads, going to do some Centaurs, Satyr and Brownies, etc, just too much stuff for one warband.

 So I wanted a bit of variation in the Tharn warband without having to use the beast form Tharn figures, so I converted the sword maiden above, well actually I was planning on making a mounted Tharn but I couldn't get the legs into a pose I wanted them and I don't have the skills to resculpt them satisfactorily, so it's a happy mistake in reality lol.-

I used clippers on purpose on this model despite the damage that they cause because I wanted them to force the legs apart to create the open legs for making a mounted pose however when I gave up on that it wasn't too hard to bend them to make the running pose instead.
I then had to putty over the damage to the loin cloth and a little to her legs, the skull on her belt was destroyed so I replaced it with a part from the new Wood elf wild rider kit (from the antlers).
I clipped and cut off the javelin from her left arm and used a file to make good all the bindings on her leg and arms (will have to see how that looks after undercoating, so hard to see on a shiny bit of metal lol.
The swords are from the wood elf glade guard kit, if I can get hold of some of the kingdom death rawhide upgrade axes at some point I will probably replace them for something more feral but there is very little out there in a decent size for the Tharn figures.

This guy is pretty much a stock Rackham Confrontation Kelt druid, rare now so I had to go over my budget to pick him up but i've no idea how else to make slightly over sized Male tharn (they are substantially bigger than the females), this guy isn't really big enough but he is bigger than the female models and being a druid I can explain it away by saying he's just a little weedy lol.
 

As you can see above the only conversion I did to this model was to remove the rounded upper part of his ears and greenstuff pointy ears (all Tharn have pointy elf like ears).

I will probably use the Kromac Figure to lead the Tharn split of warband as I own him anyway from all my Circle purchases, I have had to request a new set from Privateer press as the one I have has a major casting defect (basically all the detail is on his left leg but it's massively sunken back, as it if formed in the mould with a bubble behind it and collapsed during cooling).
I can probably repair the leg enough to use on a conversion for another male tharn, but I wanted the original detail on my Kromac.
I have found that the new style Ungor bodies could make decent male tharn conversions but I have not managed to source a decent set of mostly naked over sized male legs to convert the lower halves, so I will probably only end up with 2-3 male tharn in the list (I want to make a mounted one but I may cope out and just cover the legs with some coverings or something).

Wood elves: Dryad Heroine conversion purchased from eBay

 

I found this model on eBay a little while ago and I thought it looked absolultey amazing!, it reminds me of a character from Starcraft - brood wars.

I have a quandry with the paintwork though, it's pretty good but it doesn't match my scheme at all, so I have to work out what i'm going to do about that lol.

As I didn't convert this model take this list with a pinch of salt, but I believe the parts are:

1. Drycha Branchwraith Hero at a different angle (the slotta is at an angle in the base with the rest built up with greenstuff / plastic dryad branch bits) and the right arm assembled almost straight down instead of 90 degrees ish
2. OOP metal Demonette head
3. Plastic branch bits & stone from the Dryad kit
4. Greenstuff - mostly the head and hand, but some of the bark on her is GS too.

 I'm really glad I won this model though I probably would have attempted to re-create it if I didn't lol (I have a couple of old demonettes lying around and dryad bits, I would just have needed to buy Drycha)
It will also go great with the Dryad king i'm planning on making based on this fantastic converison:

Wood elves: Treeman: PIP

And that's as far as i've got so far....

Painted in exactly the same way as the dryads here still got a layer of white and some deepening of the horizontal lines to go, plus the leaves and the eyes.

Wood elves: Treeman

I used to play wood elves in warhammer fantasy (well twice before I sold them lol) but I was never a fan of the GW treeman, just a little too random for me, though I appreciate what they were going for.

I did try to sculpt my own treeman back in the day but I never finished him, sold him on a couple of years ago.

Anyway, so I saw the new plastic ent kit and I much prefered it's style the the treeman and previous metal ent, so I bought one to go with my wood elf warband :).

He's had a bit of liquid greenstuff added for texture and I made a root ball for his raised foot from spare dryad bits. The lower legs were swapped around which required a little trimming on the knee sockets.
I've even managed to get a bit of paint on him.... will update soon.

So what do we think of it.....?

Wood elves: Shepherd

 

So I have now completd the paintwork on the Wood elf spirit sheperd, just need to work out how to base all the woodies now, some combination of flock and herbs I think.

Actually i've just realised one of his shoes is green.... oh well something to go back and do when doing the basing!

P.S I really hated painting that tiny green man, very little detail at all on that sculpt, I tried to add some tatoos to add a bit of depth but i'm really not very good at free hand, only one of them looks any good and it's on the back of the model at an angle I didn't even photograph anyway... lol

Wood elves: Tree Seer & Trackers (PiP)

Not much going on in the hobby world i'm afraid, I've had very little to report, did a bit of dabbling but nothing much to showfor it bought some bits, sold some bits, just generally didn't do a lot lol.

Paiting these Tharn bloodtrackers & spellsinger to this point and putting a base coat on some Terrortoise is all I have accomplished in the long time between the last post and this one.

Some progress has been made on this one though she definately isn't finished, infact she's gone back into the cabinet again until the desire to paint her strikes again...
