MODheim: Terrortoise Update (PIP)

Got some painting done this weekend (one both the house and a terrortoise), so here is one almost finished guy for you, I still need to finish the eyes, and i've noticed a bright orange patch in the middle of his head that needs fixing!!

I'm quite enjoying painting the dots on these guys (though i'm hating the quality of the orange paints I presently posses), the other two are getting there, I will probably have photos of them before the end of the week.

Details about the conversions are all in this blog, just use the "labels" section under terrortoise.

I have also push molded the shell and head for another 3 terrortoise so I can finish the warband off soon. Still need to come up with ranged weapon ideas (not so enamoured with the idea of them just having slings).

  1. Nicely done dude. Don't you just hate photos for highlighting your mistakes the wolves I did recently had a red spot on the face and I still couldn't see it when I went to correct it.

    1. I had already spotted the un-inked patch on the top of his head actually and then forgot about it again, lol. of course I have now put him away and moved onto other models so I will have to sort him out at a later date.

  2. What oranges are you using?

Also, would harpoon or spring-loaded ranged weapons work for you?

    1. I have a pot of GW Firey orange (black flip lid hex pot styley) and a pot of ancient I-kore Nova orange..... one leaves a kind of stringy film type effect and the other covers like coloured water... lol

    2. I see them as low tech so I think any kind of ranged weapon needs to be low tech too, doesn't mean they arn't intellegent, just not got there yet.

I sort of see the terrortoise and fishmen as lesser races who might possibly live somewhere on Lustria's coastline, minding their own business for the most part but totally capable of defending themselves.

However saying all that I don't think they look nible enought for Javilins or Slings....

  3. I think you'd get on well with P3 Khador Red Highlight - it's an orange that goes on smooth. It needs a few coats (2-3, depending on the colour underneath), and the first one/two benefit from having a drop of decent white added to them, but you get a good richness out of the orange.

I know that the "workability" of P3 paints does alarm some folks initially though, as the seem a bit slippery out of the pot. But a few drops on your palette with a drop or two of water and they behave very well IMO.
