Inspirations: Proxy 40k armies part 2

So last month I did a little post on a forum member by the username of "Uber kroot"... but I found so much by Uber kroot that I couldn't fit it all into one post.... so now I have the continuation of some more proxy 40k armies :).

A Hrud army (LINK)
Almost look like they should be selling droids in a desert somewhere
The paint job certainly takes them away from the Jawa look

Can't beat a bit of steampunk...

OMG there's soooo many of them!!
Tanks too :)
But we aren't done yet....

K'Nib Army (link)
Initial concept
Weapon concepts
Production line
Spiders with... guns?

Spiders with goggles??!?!?!
Trust an Australian.....
I love these guys....
Holy crap!!
Ah warhammer quest had the cutest spiders...
A duel to the death
Wait now the spiders have night vision goggles and missile launchers.... AAAAAAAAHH
This picture reminds me of Dune.....

Such a brilliant idea....

Anyway that's all of Uber kroots threads that I could find, though there are some more random posts and other gems to be found should you go looking, I also didn't put up every picture from the threads so there is more to see should you follow the links.

I was suitable impressed when I first discovered these some years ago, I hope that some of these ideas could inspire you too :).

Have a good one.

Northlanders WIP

Below are a couple of guys i'm working on for my Northlanders, the empire huntsmen legs are really cool for these guys and give a better look to the figs than the militia legs i've used on the others.. unfortunately that means i'm now considering scrapping the existing conversions and starting again with all huntsmen legs... i'm sure it will pass...

These guys certainly appear more like the "Stark houseguard" that I had in mind when I started out on the Northlanders.
2 Marksmen, still a bit of GS work to be done but getting there....
PARTS LIST:
Empire hunstmen legs (the standing guy had to have the original torso removed).
2 militia torsos
Empire hunstmen arms (right arms may well not be though)
One cloak is from the hairy head sprue, I don't know where the other came from
The head is from a plastic saxon kit from I think Warlord games? (I bought a bag of heads of eBay).
And of course 30mm bases + Greenstuff

Also on my workbench (along with a bunch of other things) is this little guy, a pheasant, previously a kill from the huntsman kit, now resurrected to sit on a signpost. No idea who / what i'm going to put on the base yet though lol.
Base work for a model I haven't even thought of yet.... lol

Modheim: Deathcap (PiP) (Bloodcap Gnome Leader)

Still not decided about the hat at this point, in my head it had a skull stitching into it, but I might just leave it black (as my freehand skills are non-existent). Overall though I'm quite happy with the dour and grim look that he is bringing to the table, he certainly has the executioner look I was going for :).

I finally settled on an axe for his weapon because of the look I was going for (the axe head is from the OOP multipart chaos warriors BTW).

This guy marks the 8th gnome I have converted, I now have to get or model the mushroom men that will make up the rest of the warband (fill the position that hobgoblins would fill in a Chaos dwarf list), still looking at the Hasslefree mushroom men, but still not liking the impact that they will have on my wallet for what is the weaker part of the list :(, oh well perhaps i'll get a pay rise this year.... (lol - yeah right).

Anyway, I hope you like him, I do :).

Warmachine: Convergence of Cyriss (New faction announcement)

So, Privateer press announced a new faction as of yesterday (I think, different timezones confuse me lol)...
Images stolen from: http://www.brueckenkopf-online.com/?p=74707

The Convergence of Cyriss, from what little I know about them these are guys that worship technology to the point of "uploading" their consciousness into them (A bit like Ad-Mech in 40k). They have some art Deco styling about them and also some look much like other ideas out in the sci-fi world (e.g. I see a bit of Star wars destroyer droids and the infantry do look a little necron like).

Pictures have been released of some of the initial releases and they look OK to me, I particularly like the heavy "Vectors" (their version of warjacks), I see some potential uses there for 15mm or sci-fi games and may well have to get one once they are out later this year.

Heavy Vector Close up

Light Vector

Presumably the battle box / starter set warcaster (it is confirmed that there will be a Cyriss starter)

Not so impressed with these guys, but they are nice enough
Anyway, I haven't played WM or Hordes for absolutely ages so their release doesn't really do much for me, however I look forward to possible new conversions coming our way using these guys :).

Gnobgoblins (PIP)

Almost finished these fellas now, i'm still trying to work out a decent flesh tone, though i've inked them as they are just so that they can be used should I never find the perfect tone.

Idealy i'd use the same tone as the conversions i'm copying (over on warseer), but i'm NOT that good a painter (not even close)!

The Archers

Guy at the back left is still drying (ink) in case you are wondering why his eye is really shiny

Inspirations: Proxy 40k armies

The images you are about to see all come from one guy, forum name "Uber kroot", this guy seems to have a brilliant imagination when it comes to using other miniatures in proxy armies. The creativity here is hugely inspiring to me.

Tarellian Army (link: Here)
Now that's one tooled up leader

Nasty looking ain't he
A fair few scary creatures you wouldn't want to meet in a (large) dark alley
Jump pack Lizardmen...
Reminds me of the HE-MAN movie.....I guess the Avengers movie for younger generations
Necron Monoliths like you have never seen them before...
I see orc & necron  parts, plus a croxigor

Nekulli (Link: Here)
I saw this guy and thought that would look cool with the bretonnian banner top on it's neck.... (looked at the miniature lying on the desk underneath.... crap lol).
I might need to get me some 'nids....

Mud Devils Hunting Pack

The last 3
GW had an article some years back called "Creature Feature", I think for 40k 3rd edition chapter approved. The article detailed at least 30 rules and points costs for building your own creatures or fauna to use in games of 40k.

The finished pack of Mud devils (bar bases of course)
One of the creatures that GW converted up were the mud devils (or demons I can't remember what they called them), these are apparently inspired by a comic or graphic novel, but I have not read it myself.

The figures are converted from Squigs and the OOP metal Chaos horror arms, with some GS used to cover the squigs eyes and blend in the arms.

Took me a few years to gather the parts together for 8 of them (one not pictured above as he's my least favourite lol).

Really easy conversion and paint job, but I love these little blighters, not sure what / where I might use them yet though.

Mordheim Vampire Hunters NPCs: Diedrich's Men

An update on Diedrich & his men Men. I have painted them, though they still need highlights and the base finishing of course as per usual. I found a better purple than the purply red I had used before in a bunch of long lost paints :).

I'm pretty happy with how Diedrich turned out and the guy with the mega stash, not so happy with the other two, but as NPCs.... they'll do.

Inspirations: Lizardmen & Fimir

Apologies for the delay in updating the blog, I have had a busy xmas period (and the weeks afterwards) and very little time to spare on little figures, I have dabble a little bit here and there and based a few minis ready to undercoat, however the snow means I can't do that yet...

So i've been thinking about my lizardmen for a while now, I was pretty much going to use some Helldorado lost for the large ones and GW Skinks for the small ones. I'm probably still going to use GW Skinks but i've come across a couple of ideas that have made me look at other GW kits for the bigger lizardmen, specifically the Savage Orc kit.

This idea here from Matal over on DeviantArt is a brilliant use of the new Savage orcs to create Saurus models which I much prefer to the existing GW kit.
Check out the original on DeviantArt

The below conversion from Khar however grabs my attention more at the moment, this time Kroxigor sized but again using the savage orc kit as a basis (Amazing how flexible it can be with a legs swap). I'm really liking this conversion though I think I will reduce the neck length (a little) should I undertake it.
Check out the original thread on Warseer
While i'm posting conversions using Savage orcs as a basis have you seen Mr Saturday's Fimir? A brilliant revitalisation of an old GW race.
